With the release of
Windows Vista, Microsoft
is introducing a new
document format named

The Texas Workforce
Commission, a state
agency that oversees
workforce development
programs, needed to
overhaul its popular
client/server application
to keep up with growth in
size and functionality.
Using Sybase technology,
it was able to
re-architect and
re-implement the
application, reducing
both the size and
frequency of client
releases.
When Silicon Valley's
renowned Kepler's Books
almost folded in August
2005, loyal patrons
grieved, but no one in
the book business was
surprised. Statistics
from the American
Booksellers Association
show that many bookstores
operate in the red.
The limitations of
technology have
historically tied one
hand behind the back of
Field Sales
Representatives. By and
large, reps spend most of
the day consulting with
clients, but have to rush
back to the office to
enter customer orders
before close-of-business
every day. The 'gotta get
back to the office'
mentality usually
translates into less time
for reps to spend on
merchandising and other
marketing activities.
Mobility is a key factor
in Service Automation's
recent success. Providing
handheld Pocket PCs to
their customers' mobile
workforce has added
dispatch, multi-warehouse
inventory, and field
force automation
capabilities to their
product line.

When faced with taking on
a project that had been
attempted multiple times,
the new development team
built a Sybase
EAServerbased, three-tier
architecture that
succeeded. By employing
Sybase EAServer, Sybase
PowerBuilder, and Sybase
Adaptive Server
Enterprise (ASE) the team
was able to rapidly
deploy new functionality
to fulfill the
requirements of a large
government training
program.
