by Reed Shilts
from http://reedshilts.pbdjmagazine.com/
The first EBF for PocketBuilder 2.5.0 is now available on http://downloads.sybase.com. This EBF is solely for the device side of the product. The fixes include:
- Borders around DataWindow columns (this particular DataWindow issue is why the EBF is earlier than planned)
- UltraLite synchronization timestamps
- Couple fixes for SMS sending
- Issues with printing a regular window
Keeping Busy on CrazySQL
by Brad Wery
from www.powertothebuilder.com/blog/
I'm actively working to get another version of CrazySQL out the door. This version will focus on providing better support for SQL Anywhere. So far, so good. The two biggest tasks will be to get table and index extracts working right. I have to target system tables\views to get the information. The hardest part is converting the cryptic values retrieved to something that's human readable.
Right now I'm finalizing some work with the syntax editor control to make sure that the right keywords are highlighted when a connection is made (i.e. ASE keywords, SQL Server keywords, and SQL Anywhere keywords).
I'm getting more requests to release the source to CrazySQL. I'm still thinking of the best way to do this.
I'm also trying to add some new enhancements to the GUI controls. Allan Cartagenas has been doing a lot of work on his end, which is great. I've also got some enhancement ideas of my own.
A New Project Called the 'STD-Foundation-Classes'
by Chris Pollach
http://chrispollach.pbdjmagazine.com/codexchange__foundation_classes.htm
A new project called the "STD-Foundation-Classes" has just been created within the PowerBuilder section of CodeXchange for my various frameworks. I have created four sub-sections: InfoMaker, PocketBuilder, PowerBuilder, and EAServer. I then sub-divided those into release numbers. This is because each product version of an STD FC matches its corresponding Sybase product version. The FC's check for this relationship at runtime as part of their system-to-system controls design.
I have also loaded into each section a corresponding example application built from a corresponding FC. For PK and PB it is the "OrderEntry" application ,and for EAServer the "eStore" (ASP.Net) Web application (using the Web DW housed inside of EAS). There are also readme files in the corresponding folders plus in the FC Zip downloads. In the EAServer FCs I have included an extensive Installation Guide and PowerPoint slides outlining the architecture being used. I hope you enjoy these FCs and I apologize to those who have been trying to access these over the past month.
Will 2008 Be the Year of Connecting Users in the Enterprise?
by Ian Thain
http://ianthain.pbdjmagazine.com/will_2008_be_the_year_of_connecting_users_in_the_enterprise.htm
Personally I think 2008 will be a great year and this is why...
I predict new mobile devices, with more memory, better battery life and displays and empowering operating system features. Watch out for updates to Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS, the Apple iPhone, and Google's Android platform. New innovative formats from hardware manufacturers, for example, HTC, will spur on IT to take current systems on the road. In fact, it's my opinion that these sort of phone devices will outsell corporate PCs on a scale of at least 4:1.
Quality high-speed networks will become the norm and users will start taking that for granted. Road warriors will worry less about connectivity and speed issues.
With these previous factors, services will become connected to the mobile world and applications may even become more location-based aware. In turn, this will speed up business processes and end customers will reap the rewards as well as businesses. Innovation driving innovation!
