Sybase PowerBuilder 11 Momentum Continues with Further Microsoft .NET Enhancements

Also releases new version of DataWindow .NET and additional Vista support

Sybase has announced new Microsoft .NET Framework-based enhancements to PowerBuilder 11 and DataWindow.NET 2.5. New features for PowerBuilder include Windows Vista support, .NET Framework incremental compile capabilities, and database driver enhancements. DataWindow .NET 2.5 has been extended with the ability for developers to use Web services as a data source, TreeView presentation styles, and integration of the design-time environment into the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 development environment. Sybase plans to make PowerBuilder 11.1 available on November 15.

“PowerBuilder has always been about simplifying Windows application development, and now, PowerBuilder and DataWindow .NET are also about simplifying .NET Framework-based development,” said Sue Dunnell, product manager, Sybase. “These enhancements represent another milestone in Sybase’s .NET Framework roadmap strategy, which is to provide developers with an array of tools that solve the challenge of developing business critical applications while leveraging the existing developer skill sets.”

New PowerBuilder 11.1 features include:

  • Support for Windows Vista
  • Incremental compile for the .NET Framework
  • Database driver enhancements, including Informix 10 support

DataWindow .NET 2.5
DataWindow .NET 2.5 has been updated with a new data source and presentation style. Developers can now build a DataWindow from a Web service, simplifying the development process. The TreeView presentation style that is available for the desktop is now available for Web based applications as well.  By integrating the design-time environment as part of the product, developers can now be more efficient and never have to leave the Visual Studio integrated development environment (IDE).
