Today Confio Software announced that Kansas-based Fort Hays State University (FHSU) has chosen Ignite for DB2 as its performance management software solution. Ignite for DB2 enables FHSU to analyze database performance in real time so the database staff could be freed up for additional tasks while staying informed of any pending database issues.
“Ignite is allowing us to be more strategic with how we manage our database because we are able to look at our trend data, analyze it by the time-slice and determine exactly what is going on at any given time,” said John Kaba, database administrator for Fort Hays State University. “With this feature, we can schedule our more complex batch processes and queries during slower times, and we can ensure a more balanced load on our server. All of this helps us run things more efficiently.”
Ignite’s agentless architecture monitors database performance without installing any software on the production systems. As a result of this unique architecture, FHSU was able to take advantage of Ignite for DB2 despite legacy applications that left the database memory-constrained.
“The DBA team at FHSU required a software tool that could identify problem areas and bottlenecks before they cause an issue,” said Bryan Applegate, account manager for Confio. “With Ignite, the DBAs at FHSU can monitor and tune their database for the fastest response time possible, giving them time in their day to focus on the university’s strategic I.T. needs.”
Ignite for DB2, SQL Server, Oracle, VMware and Sybase is the one monitoring solution that identifies, analyzes and resolves all of the performance problems affecting applications and users. Unlike other software, Ignite doesn’t just show health metrics, it applies wait-time analysis to correlate the most important performance data to build a complete picture of the database performance for the DBA, Developer and DBA manager.
Additionally, Ignite gathers real time session data, server resource levels, and query information. It analyzes historical trends of response time over different dimensions – such as wait event, program or partition. Then Ignite correlates the data to lead the DBA through the most important problems and solutions.
