PowerBuilder in the Land of Banking and Precision Watches

Preparing classic apps for the future

I had the singular pleasure of receiving an invitation to deliver a one day PowerBuilder Classic Partitioning and Refactoring workshop to the Swiss PowerBuilder User Group (SPBUG).  This active group, under the capable leadership of Preben Hansen is based in Zurich.   A dozen seasoned and senior level developers attended.  One gentleman, a developer with the United Nation's World Health Organization (WHO), flew in from Geneva to participate in the training event.  That the group was engaged in the topic was evidenced by the quality of their questions and comments during the session and the enthusiasm with which they did the lab exercises.

Here's a piece of feedback I received

"Thanks a lot for giving us a great Refactoring seminar - a topic that is essential to everyone maintaining PB applications. Combining the Refactoring topic with Test Driven Development then also taught us to use pbUnit to also make new applications and enhancements to existing application better testable, resulting in an improved software quality. Your active presentation form and entertainment kept us all very much awake and with a very good chance of remembering what we learned. Probably many of us will even start using pbUnit very soon. The good documentation you gave us, will be really helpful in that process."
