Software Tool & Die (my company) is pleased to announce that they have released an update to their STD Foundation Classes for PocketBuilder (PK). This latest release of the framework complements PocketBuilder release 2.5.2 build 1273. The Foundation Classes are located on the Source Forge web site and also include the sample OrderEntry application built from the same framework.

Here is a summary of the latest new and revised features of this FC release:
1) Various "tweaks" for better performance.
2) Changed the Application Controller ancestor to look for the new Windows Mobile 6.1 release.
3) Updated the internal VM runtime check to look for build 1273.
4) Cleaned up the Login Master ancestor to tweaK the data entry controls for the proper
heights for the Tahoma font to remove excess "white space".
5) The Application Controller now displays an HourGlass while in "start-up" mode.
- The allows the application user to see that something is happening on application start.
6) Removed the "Control Menu" on the Zoom dialog as it was not needed.
7) Fixed the "Calculator" application launch on Windows mobile 6.x
8) Changed the Menu base class to display / launch the Notepad internal WM application
for both text and now voice recording.
9) Corrected the base menu class to launch the new MSN application under WM 6.x properly.
10) Added a Debug/Trace option to the Application Controller
- Supported by a new INI setting
- New methods in the A.C. to Get/Set the Debug/Trace option.
11) Changed the Transaction base class component to work with the new SQLAnywhere version 11 DBMS release.
12) Changed the OrderEntry sample application to use the "EAS Demo DB V115" SA 11.1 database.
13) Added a new INI parameter to optional set the KeepSIP Datawindow feature.
14) Added new methods to the Application Controller to set/get the KeepSIP option.
15) Resized the Controller dialog in the OrderEntry sample application for better viewing in WM 6.x
16) Chanaged the Controller Window base class to return the adjusted height properly in WM 6.0
if the StatusBar is present.

As an educator, Chris is certified to teach PowerBuilder (first in Canada), MS-SQLServer, Sybase’s Enterprise Application Studio and EAServer integrated application/web development environment. He is former Certified SilverStream developer (CSSD) and current Certified PowerBuilder Developer – Associate / Professional (CPD-P) as well as a Certified Sybase Tools Instructor (CSI).
Chris has written numerous articles in various popular personal computer magazines, newsletters and is the author of the PowerGuide and PowerExpert products. Currently, Chris has developed a Foundation Class library for PocketBuilder development on PDA devices using the PocketPC Operating System (similar to Microsoft’s .NET strategy). He has also developed a similar Framework for Sybase's PowerBulder and EAServer that integrates JSP or ASP web development that supports Section 508 and CLF web standards.
Chris recently became a 2nd Degree Black in the TaeKwonDo martial art and has developed a Martial Art multimedia study guide using the Component-One “Doc2Help” and Sybase PowerBuilder products. Since the fall of 2004 he became a TaeKwonDo instructor for the City of Ottawa’s Goulbourn program. He has also been certified with the World TaeKwonDo Federation (February 2005 - 1st Dan and October 2008 - 2nd Dan).
Chris was awarded the Sybase “Innovation and Achievement” award for 2005 as voted for by the International Sybase User Group (ISUG). This award was presented for innovations to the PocketBuilder mobile development product, contributions to the PowerBuilder News groups and support of the Ottawa Sybase User Group.
To round his management and leadership skills, Chris is the former president of the Kiwanis Club of Goulbourn and still volunteers his time with the service clubs in his area. He is also the coordinator of the Ottawa Sybase User group and a certified NAUI scuba instructor. For the last three years, Chris has been voted onto the ISUG Board of Directors and holds the position of "Director - North American User Groups".
