Multi-Layers of Security Encryption Is A Mobile Enterprise Necessity

Hardware encryption reported as hacked

Today more than ever Multi-layers of security encryption is a Mobile Enterprise necessity. Lets face it, in work or our personal lives, when we leave a location we do not just shut and lock-up one lock, but we rely on maybe a secondary lock or security alarm system. We still even rely on the old faithful human security guard. Now that we are carrying around more and more personal & corporate data with us, we need to do the same and to be as vigilant.

Apple's iPhone continues as a hot topic in the media. I wrote last week about, Apple's recently announced earnings and reported sales of 5.2 million Apple iPhone units in the third fiscal quarter.

Also that users have downloaded more than 1.5 billion applications from the App Store in its first year. In addition, Apple highlighted that the iPhone is making inroads within the Enterprise. The company reported that about about 20 percent of Fortune 100 companies placed orders of 10,000 units or more, while some governmental agencies ordered up to 25,000 units.

One reason for this penetration, according to Apple, is the new hardware encryption in the iPhone3GS. However, that hardware encryption has been reported to have been  "hacked".

From Sybase’s perspective, Apple’s new hardware encryption on the iPhone3GS is complimentary to Sybase’s strategy but it does not eliminate the need for our secure enterprise sandbox.

In order for an enterprise to provide the most secure solution, iAnywhere Mobile Office is required. Our unique sandbox approach focuses on software encryption to deal with a very common use case where a hacker will gain access to the iPhone data from an operating system level. With Apple’s current hardware encryption exclusively provided on their latest iPhone3GS devices, the enterprise is NOT protected against this use case.

Secure it or lose it!
